and Mary Kavanaugh

When Ally LeCaux and her four sisters lost their mom, Marty "Spitfire" Dowdle (72), to ovarian cancer in August 2000, middle sister Ally vowed to make a 1000-mile epic journey by scooter to raise money for ovarian cancer research. Everyone at The Lynne Cohen Foundation was so inspired by Ally's commitment to the cause that we decided to create an event around the end of her journey in San Francisco. Ally kicked off from southern Washington on June 5, 2001 and 48 days later, on July 22nd, scooted across the Golden Gate Bridge. Several hundred walkers and runners met Ally as she crossed the bridge and accompanied her back to the finish line and celebration in Golden Gate Park. With much support from her sisters, Ally sold her miles and raised $20,000 for early detection research.
