Nancy Jopes, 1949-2003
In May 2002, when Nancy Jopes was
54 years old, she successfully completed the AVON 3-day walk
for Breast Cancer. One month later, she went to see her doctor
with symptoms of bloating and generally not feeling right.
She was diagnosed with stage III-C ovarian cancer. She underwent
one surgery and multiple rounds of chemotherapy, but never
lost hope. She fought courageously to beat this horrible disease.
Nancy passed away after a one-year battle, in June 2003.
She was a pediatric oncology nurse and
spent her professional life caring for ill children and
their families. She lived her life to the fullest and had
a wonderful way of letting everyone in her life know how
important they were to her.
Nancy was loved and cared for by her
dedicated husband of 35 years, Dan; her two children, Jessica
and Jeff; her son in law, Vince; daughter in law, Shauna;
countless family members and close friends; and her most
precious loves, her grandchildren, Mackenzie and Jordan.
The Jopes family lost another family
member to ovarian cancer in 1980. Jackie Jopes, Dan’s
mother, passed away just a few months after experiencing the
same symptoms that Nancy did. For this reason, the family
has decided to donate all gifts to The Lynne Cohen Preventive
Care Clinic for Women's Cancers at USC/Norris Comprehensive
Cancer Center in Los Angeles.
