Lynne Cohen and Caring Together Project for Women with Increased Risk for Cancer Risk at Bellevue and NYU Langone Medical Centers

 

Bellevue Program Description

Provides medical care to uninsured, underserved minority women at high-risk for ovarian and/or breast cancer. Participants receive, as appropriate, both gynecologic and breast exams and screenings; genetic counseling; lifestyle counseling; educational tools; and access to the latest early detection and prevention trial for women's cancers.

Studies Open to Participants at Bellevue

  1. Enrollment in the Lynne Cohen Patient Data Registry
  2. MRI 3-Tessla study of specificity in high risk women
  3. Letrozole in high-risk women. Study closed. Follow-up only.
  4. GOG 199 - Enrollment completed. Follow-up only.

Eligibility

All eligible patients regardless of insurance coverage. BRCA 1 or 2; family member(s) with breast and/or ovarian cancer, or known BRCA mutation in the family; Ashkenazi Jewish descent; breast biopsy with atypical cells or lobular carcinoma in-situ; history of infertility drugs; a diagnosis of breast or ovarian cancer (one of which increases the risk for the other)

NYU Cancer Center Program Description

  4. GOG 199 - Enrollment completed. Follow-up only.
  5. SOM230 - A somatostatin analog trial to demonstrate reversal of hyperplasia, a breast lesion that puts women at high risk for breast cancer.
  6. Questionnaire study of attitudes toward fertility and pre-implantation genetics in high-risk women – a Lynne Cohen Consortium study in conjunction with M. D. Anderson Cancer Center

Eligibility

All women who may be at increased risk for breast cancer based on family history, ancestry, personal history of breast or ovarian cancer, personal history of breast lesions that increase risk for breast cancer (e.g. atypical hyperplasia, LCIS, DCIS), or those women who consider themselves, for any reason, to be at increased risk
